We
believe that every child has a unique inherent computing talent, which can be
brought out by a regular ancient way of practice. For this we also have compulsory
Abacus classes to primary level students conducted by trained teachers. This
not only sharpens their computing skill but also helps them to boost their
concentrating power and memory level. Abacus teaching helps children to develope
an active approach to calculation. The
standard abacus can be used to perform addition, subtraction, division and
multiplication. The abacus can also be used to extract square-roots and cubic
roots. The abacus is a mechanical aid used for counting; it is not a calculator
in the sense we use the word today.
One
particular use for the abacus is teaching children simple mathematics and
especially multiplication; the abacus is an excellent substitute for rote
memorization of multiplication tables, a particularly detestable task for young
children. The abacus is also an excellent tool for teaching other base
numbering systems since it easily adapts itself to any base. The enduring interest in this ancient
device cannot be ruled out as it is popularly demanded in many schools in Asia,
Africa and Europe.
